Jet black boxes found as cause of deadly DC crash investigated

Investigators have recovered the flight data recorders, commonly known as black boxes, from an American Airlines jet that collided with a US Army helicopter near Washington DC on Wednesday. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) stated it has gathered significant information but needs time to verify the details. A preliminary report is expected within 30 days.

As more details about the 67 victims of the crash emerge, President Donald Trump expressed his condolences, saying, "Our hearts are shattered" by the tragedy. He also attributed the incident to diversity rules implemented by previous administrations, suggesting that air traffic control personnel may not always have been properly qualified, though he did not provide evidence to support this claim.

In a recording, air traffic controllers are heard asking the helicopter’s crew if they can see the approaching plane.
