Trump says US 'in mourning' after no survivors from Washington DC plane and helicopter crash

President Donald Trump expressed deep sorrow, saying "our hearts are shattered" following a tragic crash in Washington, D.C., involving a plane and a military helicopter. The crash occurred near Ronald Reagan National Airport, resulting in no survivors. Officials have recovered the bodies of 28 victims, and it is believed that 64 people were on the American Airlines flight and three were aboard the military helicopter at the time of the collision.

Trump, without providing evidence, attributed the incident to diversity hiring practices under previous administrations, claiming that people who were not qualified might have been hired for air traffic control roles. One area of investigation is why the helicopter was flying in that particular location, with Trump questioning why the helicopter did not take evasive action, such as climbing, descending, or turning.

In a released audio clip, air traffic controllers can be heard asking the helicopter's crew if they had visibility of the incoming plane.
