Volodymyr Zelensky described Russia's proposal for "direct talks" this coming Thursday as a "positive sign" that it might be considering an end to the war in Ukraine.

His remarks followed a late-night address by Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which he invited Ukraine to engage in "serious negotiations."
